dogwood-pagoda
Dogwood Pagoda

Pagoda Dogwood is a large shrub or small tree that is native to Ontario. In late spring/early summer, small clusters of creamy-white flowers appear before turning into blue-black berries by late summer. In the fall, the leaves sometimes turn reddish-purple, though some years it may be more yellow. Pagoda Dogwood may be ornamental, but it also benefits wildlife. The flowers are enjoyed by bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, while the berries are eaten by birds such as Grouse, Pheasants, and Wild Turkeys, as well as small mammals like squirrels. It's also the larval host for the Spring Azure butterfly.

Pagoda Dogwood grows best in acidic, fertile, somewhat moist, well-drained soil. It dislikes hot, humid weather and appreciates afternoon shade in warmer climates. It can tolerate full shade, but flowering will be reduced.
