Hardneck Garlic has a shorter shelf life and fewer cloves, but has a much stronger flavour. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAs your garlic grows, remove any scapes (flowers) that appear so the plant keeps putting energy into the bulbs. Around July, stop watering your garlic and allow the soil to dry out. Once the foliage is half dried out and brown and half green, usually around late July or early August, your garlic should be ready to harvest. Hang or lay your garlic to dry in a cool, ventilated, shady area for 2-4 weeks.
