Our Plant Growing

Below are some common questions about the plants we grow and how we do so

Do you grow any of your plants?

Yes, a lot of them! We grow thousands of varieties right here on-site (totaling 3.5 million plants!), including most of our annuals, perennials, roses, houseplants, water plants, and even carnivorous plants. Growing ourselves allows us to ensure quality, selection, and sustainability you won’t find at big box stores.

Do you offer wholesale?

No, sorry! We are a retail grower, meaning we grow our own plant material for our retail store but do not provide wholesale plants to other stores.

If you are a landscape contractor or other small horticulture business, we do offer a contractor discount. Please see our Contractor Accounts for details.

What makes your nursery environmentally responsible?

As a family-owned business, making responsible choices that support long-term environmental health is a core part of how we operate. We minimize our environmental impact with practices like:

  • Using a closed-loop rainwater collection & recycling system
  • Growing in 100% recyclable plastic pots
  • Offering customer recycling bins and partnering with our supplier for a closed-loop plastic system
  • Managing pests with IPM and primarily beneficial insects
  • Prioritizing native plants and discontinuing invasive species
  • Hot water heating to minimize our carbon footprint

Check out our Sustainability Initiatives for more details.

Can I bring my pots back to recycle?

Yes! We are able to recycle greenhouse plastic pots and trays with the recycling symbol for #2, 5, and 6 on them. Our bins are located at the back of the parking lot, close to our soil & stone yard.

When is the best time to plant?

Spring and fall are the best times to plant, thanks to cooler temperatures and natural rainfall that help roots get established (we still recommend regular watering). That said, planting in summer is still possible, just with more care. If you're planting in hot weather, daily watering is a must for the season to reduce transplant shock and plant stress.

Our Policies

Below are some common questions about our policies

My plant died... now what?

Sometimes, even with the best care, a plant just doesn’t make it and we understand how disappointing that can be. See our Guarantee & Return Policy to find out if your plant is covered and how to start your return.

I would like to return a purchase. What do I need?

Sometimes a plant or product just isn’t the right fit and that’s okay! See our Guarantee & Return Policy for details.

I think my plant has a pest/disease. What should I do?

We're happy to help diagnose issues and make treatment recommendations! Please email us at info@vandermeernursery.com with:

  • Clear photos of the plant, including close ups and an image of the entire plant
  • A brief description of where it’s planted (indoor/outdoor, how much sun/shade, relation to windows if indoor, in-ground or container)
  • How it’s been cared for (watering, fertilizer, etc.)
  • Any signs of damage you've noticed, such as deformed growth, sticky residue, light green/grey stippling dots, holes in leaves or stems, etc.
I was asked for my phone number at cash. What does that do?

Providing your phone number allows us to store your receipts on file, so you don’t have to worry about keeping paper copies — especially helpful for returns and plant guarantee claims.

Can I bring my dog/pet?

Yes! If they're friendly, we're friendly! Please ensure they are on a leash shorter than 6 feet and you are prepared to pick up any accidents.

Do you offer a seniors discount?

Yes! We offer a 10% discount on our regular priced plant material, 7 days a week. You must be 65 years or older to qualify. Please ask your cashier at the start of your transaction.
