Apple 'Golden Sentinel™'
Malus 'Golden Sentinel'
Golden Sentinel™ is a columnar apple tree that was developed in B.C. during the 1980's. It's disease-resistant and produces large, golden-yellow apples with a rosy blush and a sweet, mellow flavour. The apples ripen in late September and can be stored for around 4 months.
Apple trees need cross-pollination to make fruit. This means that you will need two different, compatible varieties of apple growing within 100 feet of each other for both trees to produce apples.
All of the fruit trees we carry are semi-dwarf. We find these are best for homeowners as their smaller size makes them easier to harvest, prune, and spray while being hardier and longer-lived than dwarf varieties.
Apples grow best in full sun with fertile, moist, well-drained soil. Keep the area around the tree free from weeds and other plants, and remember to protect the trunk and branches over the winter from hungry rabbits. Fertilize your tree regularly once it's established (3-5 years after planting) and use a dormant spray kit at least seasonally to protect against overwintering insects and fungal diseases.
Fruit trees are best pruned during the dormant season, late winter to early spring, once the coldest weather has passed but before growth begins. However, damaged, diseased, and dying/dead branches should be pruned as soon as possible. We recommend looking up a specific pruning system or guide before starting any heavy pruning.
Seasonal Availability: Typically available May through August, depending on suppliers availability.

Bee-Friendly and Requires Cross-Pollination
Care
Full sun outdoors (6-8+ hours of direct sun)
Water every 2-4 days for the first year until established (based on outdoor temperature & plant's water consumption).
If it is planted in a pot, it should have a drainage hole to reduce the likelihood of root rot caused by water accumulating in the bottom of the pot.
Increase watering in the heat of summer and watch for wilting or browning as signs to increase watering frequency.
