Banana Ornamental 'Maurelii'
Ensete ventricosum 'Maurelii'
Maurelii is a dramatic ornamental tropical with huge, paddle-shaped leaves flushed with burgundy-red and green. It is grown for its bold foliage and is excellent for adding height and a lush, tropical feel to large planters and garden beds. Though it closely resembles a traditional Banana Plant, it belongs to a different genus.
Maurelii grows best in full sun to part shade with rich, consistently moist, well-drained soil. It is grown as an annual in our climate but can be overwintered indoors if given a very bright location and plenty of space.
Seasonal Availability: Typically May through August
Characteristics

Interesting Foliage
Care
Full sun outdoors (6-8+ hours of direct sun) and Part shade outdoors (4 hours of direct sun)
Keep soil moist, but not soggy.
If it is planted in a pot, it should have a drainage hole to reduce the likelihood of root rot caused by water accumulating in the bottom of the pot.
Increase watering in the heat of summer and watch for wilting or browning as signs to increase watering frequency.
