Basil Red
Ocimum basilicum 'Prospera Red'
This variety of Red Basil has a Genovese flavour and scent but with 3" long, slightly cupped, dark purple leaves. You may have some red and green bicolour leaves.
Basil can and should be harvested frequently to prolong its life. Since basil is an annual, it will stop growing once the flowers start to appear, as it transfers all its energy into producing seeds. If you see flowers starting to form, pinch them off to encourage leafy growth.
Basil grows best in full sun with rich, loose, well-drained soil. Allow the top of the soil to dry out before watering again, but don't let the soil stay dry for too long.
Seasonal Availability: Typically available April through June, depending on suppliers availability.

Care
Full sun outdoors (6-8+ hours of direct sun)
Let top 1-2" dry out before watering again.
If it is planted in a pot, it should have a drainage hole to reduce the likelihood of root rot caused by water accumulating in the bottom of the pot.
Increase watering in the heat of summer and watch for wilting or browning as signs to increase watering frequency.
