Bean Green 'Roma II'
Phaseolus vulgaris 'Capitano'
Roma II is a reliable, productive romano variety that produces stringless, 5"-6" long, green beans that are very flavourful. They can be sown in succession every 3 weeks in from mid-spring to early summer for an extended harvest. Roma II is a bush bean and does not require support, making it great for small spaces or container gardening.
Harvest your beans when they are between 5"-6" long and still thin. Check your plant regularly for ripe beans, and harvest often. Plants that are regularly picked from are more productive and will produce for a longer period of time.
Beans are a cool season crop, which means they do most of their growing in spring and fall and tend to grow poorly (or not at all) during the summer heat. Beans grow best in full sun with loose, consistently moist (but not soggy), well-drained soil. Adding organic matter to your soil will help loosen it up if it is heavy and compacted.
