Beech 'Riversii'
Fagus sylvatica 'Riversii'
Riversii is a type of European beech with a dense, broad crown and large leaves that emerge deep purple in spring before fading to a purple-green by summer. It has inconspicuous flowers in the spring that ripen into spikey fruits by fall. The leaves turn copper in autumn, illuminating the whole tree.
Beeches grow best in full sun to part shade with rich, moist, well-drained soils. They are intolerant of poor drainage and wet, boggy soils.
