Blueberry 'Duke'

Duke is a highbush variety that produces large, firm, mildly sweet blueberries. Duke flowers later in the season than most varieties, meaning there is less chance for late frosts to damage the buds. Even though it blooms later, it ripens early, with the berries usually being ready by late June/early July. 

Blueberries are mostly self-fertile, but will produce larger yields if they have a different variety of blueberry growing close by that flowers at the same time. 

Blueberries require fertile, moist, acidic, well-draining soil to grow and produce fruit. In areas with hot summers, they prefer morning sun and afternoon shade. If your soil is alkaline, you will need to add a soil acidifier or aluminum sulfate at least twice a year to keep the pH low enough. They also dislike heavy, poorly-drained soils and windy, exposed sites.
