Butterwort Primuliflora
Pinguicula primuliflora
Pinguicula primuliflora, or Southern Butterwort, is a carnivorous plant native to the southeastern United States, including Georgia, Florida, Alabama, and Mississippi. Its flat green leaves form low rosettes and are covered in tiny, sticky hairs that trap small insects such as gnats, flies, and springtails. As a bonus, it can also produce delicate violet-purple flowers.
Southern Butterworts can be relatively short-lived, but they often spread by producing plantlets from the tips of their leaves. They prefer consistently moist conditions and bright, indirect light. Water only with distilled, rain, or reverse osmosis water, as they are sensitive to minerals found in tap water. Plant them in a nutrient-poor medium such as sphagnum moss or a mix of peat moss and perlite, and avoid standard potting soils or added fertilizers.
Seasonal Availability: Limited stock; available periodically throughout the year.
Characteristics
Bush

Care

Keep soil moist, but not soggy. Your pot should have a drainage hole to reduce the likelihood of root rot caused by water accumulating in the bottom of the pot.
