Cabbage Red
Brassica oleracea var. capitata 'Red Jewel'
Red Jewel is a high-yielding variety of cabbage that produces brightly coloured, red cabbage that weighs between 3-3.5lbs once mature.
Once your cabbage is firm to the touch and the interior feels dense, it is ready for harvest. Avoid heavily fertilizing your cabbage as it nears maturity, since rapid growth can cause the heads to split. Overwatering or heavy rains after dry spells can also cause splitting.
Cabbage is a cool-season crop and performs best in spring and fall, before the temperatures begin to rise. High heat can stop the heads from forming. They prefer to grow in full sun with fertile, consistently moist, well-drained soil. Consider adding organic matter to your soil to improve fertility and drainage.
Seasonal Availability: Typically available March through June, depending on suppliers availability.

Care
Full sun outdoors (6-8+ hours of direct sun)
Keep soil moist, but not soggy.
If it is planted in a pot, it should have a drainage hole to reduce the likelihood of root rot caused by water accumulating in the bottom of the pot.
Increase watering in the heat of summer and watch for wilting or browning as signs to increase watering frequency.
