Cardinal Flower
Lobelia cardinalis
Cardinal Flower is a native perennial that thrives in moist to wet soils. Bright red flowers are produced from midsummer into early fall. Though it is a short-lived perennial, it can and will reseed itself in ideal growing conditions.
Cardinal Flower grows best in full sun to part shade with consistent moisture; it can even be grown in shallow water! It will tolerate poor drainage and damp soil, and can be grown in regular gardens as long as adequate moisture is provided.
