Carrot 'Kintoki'
Daucus carota var. sativus 'Kintoki'
Kintoki is a fast-growing, Japanese variety that produces 10"-12" long, sweet-tasting, red carrots that are heat-tolerant.
Carrots can be harvested at any size, but they are mature when they have turned red, and the tops have started to peek out of the ground.
Carrots grow best in full sun in loose, sandy soils. Rocky or clay soils will result in stunted, twisted carrots. If needed, amend your soil with organic matter to improve drainage and lighten heavy, clay soils.
Seasonal Availability: Typically available March through June, depending on suppliers availability.
Characteristics
Hardiness: Non-Hardy/Annual
Does Not Require Cross-Pollination
Care
Full sun outdoors (6-8+ hours of direct sun)
Let top 1-2" dry out before watering again.
If it is planted in a pot, it should have a drainage hole to reduce the likelihood of root rot caused by water accumulating in the bottom of the pot.
Increase watering in the heat of summer and watch for wilting or browning as signs to increase watering frequency.
