Catalpa Northern
Catalpa speciosa
Northern Catalpa is a deciduous flowering tree that has naturalized in Ontario. It features large green leaves and clusters of orchid-like white flowers with purple and yellow spotting on the interior that arrive in summer. Once finished, the flowers turn into long, thin, bean-like seed pods.
Northern Catalpa grows best in full to part sun with moist to wet, well-drained soil. It's tolerant of a wide range of soil conditions and can even adapt to dry soil and/or seasonal flooding.
Seasonal Availability: Typically available May through August, depending on suppliers availability.

Size: 40'-70' tall, 20'-50' wide
Bee-Friendly, Butterfly-Friendly, and Drought-Tolerant
Care
Full sun outdoors (6-8+ hours of direct sun) and Part shade outdoors (4 hours of direct sun)
Water every 2-4 days for the first year until established (based on outdoor temperature & plant's water consumption).
Increase watering in the heat of summer and watch for wilting or browning as signs to increase watering frequency.
