Cedar 'Black'
Thuja occidentalis 'Nigra'
Black Cedar is a conical evergreen with dark green foliage that holds its colour well throughout the year. It's mostly used as a hedge, as it's denser, smaller, and slightly more conical than White Cedar. Winter protection is recommended, especially for newly transplanted trees.
Cedars grow best in full sun with moist, well-drained soil. Consistent moisture is important, especially when young and before winter. They can tolerate part shade, but the foliage may become less full. Avoid planting them in exposed, windy areas.
Seasonal Availability: Typically available May through September, depending on suppliers availability.
