Clematis 'Jackmanii'

Jackmanii is one of the most popular varieties of clematis, and for a good reason! It produces an abundance of dark purple flowers that fade to violet as they age. Jackmanii was first introduced in 1862. Clematis are not self-clinging and require support to grow on. 

Clematis are one of the few plants that appreciate being planted deeply. The first set of leaf nodes should be below the soil line; this helps protect the crown over the winter. 

Clematis grow best in full to part sun (the best flowering is achieved in full sun) with moist, well-drained, alkaline soil. They dislike heavy clay soils and will not tolerate drought, especially during hot summer days. Clematis don't do well with competition, so make sure the area around their root system is clear from weeds and other plants.
