Clematis 'Sweet Autumn'
Clematis paniculata
Sweet Autumn is a vigorous clematis variety that produces a profusion of tiny, creamy-white, somewhat fragrant flowers that appear in late summer and bloom till early fall.
Clematis are one of the few plants that appreciate being planted deeply. The first set of leaf nodes should be below the soil line; this helps protect the crown over the winter.
Clematis grow best in full to part sun (the best flowering is achieved in full sun) with moist, well-drained, alkaline soil. They dislike heavy clay soils and will not tolerate drought, especially during hot summer days. Clematis don't do well with competition, so make sure the area around their root systems is free of weeds and other plants.
Sweet Autumn clematis is a vigorous grower and can produce an abundance of seeds in one season. We recommend planting it in an area where growth can be controlled, and seeds cannot spread to naturalized areas. Alternatively, you can cut the plant back immediately after flowering to halt seed production.
