Common Mare's Tail
Hippuris vulgaris
Common Mare's Tail is an aquatic perennial with linear foliage up its stem, making the plant resemble a bottlebrush. Though Common Mare's Tail does flower, they are inconspicuous and difficult to see with the naked eye.
Common Mare's Tail grows best in full sun or part shade in slow-moving or stagnant water, or on receding shorelines in sandy, gravelly or muddy soils. It will form colonies via rhizomes as it grows.
