Common Ninebark
Physocarpus opulifolius
Common ninebark is a flowering shrub native to Ontario. It produces small clusters of tiny white flowers in early summer. The flowers are a food source for pollinators, and the seeds produced afterwards feed birds and small mammals. It's also great for erosion control as it has a dense, spreading root system.
Ninebark grows best in full to part sun with average, well-drained soil. It is tolerant of a wide range of soil conditions and is quite low-maintenance once established. Common ninebark can be prone to powdery mildew; keeping the soil moist and planting in full sun can help prevent it.
Seasonal Availability: Typically available May through September, depending on suppliers availability.
