Cornelian Cherry
Cornus mas
Cornelian Cherry is a dogwood species that features unique, bright-yellow flowers in spring that turn into sour, cherry-like red fruit that can be made into syrup or preserves. The fruits are quite ornamental and can be left on the plant for the birds to enjoy. In addition to the flowers and fruit, mature trees have mottled bark, giving them some winter interest.
Cornelian Cherry grows best in full to part sun with fertile, moist, slightly acidic, well-drained soil. Consider adding organic matter to your garden to improve drainage and soil fertility.
