Cotoneaster 'Bearberry'
Cotoneaster dammeri
Bearberry cotoneaster is an evergreen shrub that's commonly used as a groundcover, as its vigorous, dense growth helps block out weeds and other unwanted growth. The shiny, small, dark green leaves turn reddish to purple-bronze in the winter. In late spring, small white flowers appear before turning into red berries, which ripen in the fall. These berries provide winter interest and are also eaten by hungry birds and small mammals. Their sprawling, spreading habit also makes them great for erosion control.
Cotoneaster is very easy to grow. They prefer full to part sun and average, well-drained soils. Their sprawling, spreading habit also makes them great for erosion control.
