Crabapple 'Profusion'
Malus × moerlandsii 'Profusion'
Profusion is a popular variety of crabapple that produces masses of rose-pink flowers in late spring and 0.5" blood-red fruits that hang on the tree until winter, unless birds eat them first. The foliage emerges reddish-purple in spring, changes to green-bronze by summer, and turns shades of amber, yellow, orange, and orange-red in fall. It also has moderate resistance to scab, fire blight, rust, and mildew.
Crabapples grow best in full sun with moist, fertile, well-drained soil. They're generally very cold-hardy and quite tolerant of different growing conditions. Protect the trunk from rabbits in winter.
