Currant Black 'Consort'

Consort is a variety of black currant that produces high yields of large, juicy, tart black berries with a bittersweet flavour. Black Currants are best eaten after cooking, as raw berries are quite tart. Consort is resistant to white pine blister rust. 

Currants are self-fertile but will produce larger yields when planted with a different variety that flowers at the same time. It can take currants 4-5 years to become well-established and start producing full crops. 

Currants grow best in full sun to light shade with fertile, well-drained soils.
