Dawn Redwood
Metasequoia glyptostroboides
Dawn Redwood is a large, fast-growing deciduous conifer. The green needles turn copper-red in autumn before dropping from the tree. In good conditions, it can grow 1 meter per year.
Dawn Redwood grows best in full sun with moist, acidic soil. However, it is adaptable to a wide range of soil types, including clay and sand. Moisture is the most important aspect for successfully growing a Dawn Redwood; it cannot tolerate drought when young and can tolerate short dry periods when established. It will grow in wet soil quite happily.
