Dogwood 'Midwinter Fire'
Cornus sanguinea 'Midwinter Fire'
Midwinter Fire is a stunning variety that mostly shows off in the fall and winter. In late spring/early summer, the clusters of small white flowers attract pollinators, but the real show starts in fall. First, the foliage turns golden-yellow before falling off to reveal the multi-coloured stems. Yellow at the base, they gradually turn bright orange and then crimson closer to the branch tips. This variety is great if you are looking to add unique winter interest to your garden.
Dogwoods are low-maintenance shrubs that grow well in wet areas and in average garden conditions; just keep them well-watered until they establish.
