Duckweed
Lemna minor
Duckweed is a native, floating aquatic perennial that features tiny green leaves that eventually form a mat on the water's surface. Fast-growing, Duckweed is beneficial in that it can remove excess nutrients from the water, block mosquitoes from laying eggs, help stop larvae from emerging, and is a food source for many birds, fish, frogs, and some mammals.
Duckweed is very easy to grow, but it can spread aggressively. Luckily, it is very easy to control, though 100% eradication is difficult to achieve.
