Dwarf Juniper
Juniperus procumbens 'Nana'
Dwarf Juniper is a popular choice for bonsai, with short, dense green needles that form a compact mound over time. It must be grown outdoors, as it requires a cool winter dormancy period. Junipers kept indoors year-round will gradually decline and typically survive only 1–2 years, if that. If grown in a container, protect the root system over winter by sinking the pot into the ground or otherwise insulating it from extreme cold.
Dwarf Juniper grows best in full sun outdoors. Use a well-draining bonsai soil mix and allow the top few inches of soil to dry before watering again.
Seasonal Availability: Typically available year-round, depending on supplier availability.
