Garlic Hardneck
Allium sativum var. ophioscorodon
Hardneck Garlic is a cold-hardy type that produces medium to strongly flavoured cloves and scapes. Hardneck Garlic has a shorter shelf life and fewer cloves, but has a much stronger flavour.
As your garlic grows, remove any scapes (flowers) that appear so the plant keeps putting energy into the bulbs. Around July, stop watering your garlic and allow the soil to dry out. Once the foliage is half dried out and brown and half green, usually around late July or early August, your garlic should be ready to harvest. Hang or lay your garlic to dry in a cool, ventilated, shady area for 2-4 weeks. Once dry they are ready to use!
Garlic grows best in full sun with rich, well-drained soil. Water regularly, but don't keep the soil too wet. If you have heavy soil, we recommend adding organic matter to help loosen your soil and improve drainage.
Seasonal Availability: Typically available April through June, depending on suppliers availability.

Care
Full sun outdoors (6-8+ hours of direct sun)
Let top 1-2" dry out before watering again.
If it is planted in a pot, it should have a drainage hole to reduce the likelihood of root rot caused by water accumulating in the bottom of the pot.
Increase watering in the heat of summer and watch for wilting or browning as signs to increase watering frequency.
