Goldenrod Zigzag
Solidago flexicaulis
Zigzag Goldenrod (Solidago flexicaulis) is a shade-tolerant perennial native to Ontario. In late summer, small clusters of bright yellow flowers appear along the upper stems, providing nectar and pollen for bees, butterflies, and other late-season pollinators. Its broad, toothed green leaves and distinctive zigzagging stems give it an attractive woodland appearance.
Zigzag Goldenrod grows best in part to full shade with moist, well-drained soil. Unlike some other Goldenrod species, it spreads relatively slowly and is generally less aggressive, making it a great choice for average-sized gardens. It can gradually spread by rhizomes and seed to form small colonies over time.
