Hydrangea Panicle 'Pee Gee'
Hydrangea paniculata 'Grandiflora'
Pee Gee is one of the oldest varieties of cultivated hydrangeas, first introduced sometime in the 1860s. It has incredibly large, pure white flowers that slowly age to a light pink as the nighttime temperatures begin to cool. The branching is not as strong as newer cultivars, so the weight of the blooms will cause the stems to arch downwards, giving a weeping effect. The flowers can be cut for bouquets, dried, or left on as winter interest.
Hydrangeas have very shallow root systems and dry out quickly, especially in full sun. If you notice your hydrangea is wilting, dropping flowers and/or leaves, or turning brown, it is time to water! Applying a layer of mulch around the root system can also help conserve water.
