Vernonia 'Summer's Surrender'
Summer's Surrender Ironweed features thin, finely textured foliage and shaggy, fuchsia-purple blossoms in late summer/early fall. A large perennial, but it is smaller than the species. Very attractive to pollinators. This variety features exceptional disease resistance to rust and powdery mildew.
Ironweed grows best in full sun to light shade in dry to average, well-drained soils. Quite tolerant of many soil types.
Seasonal Availability: Typically mid-April to August
Characteristics
Size: 3'-4' tall, 5'-6' wide
Bee-Friendly, Butterfly-Friendly, Hummingbird-Friendly, and Disease-Resistant
Care
Full sun outdoors (6-8+ hours of direct sun) and Part shade outdoors (4 hours of direct sun)
Water every 1-3 days for first year until established (based on outdoor temperature & plant's water consumption).
Increase watering in the heat of summer and watch for wilting or browning as signs to increase watering frequency.
