Japanese Snowbell
Styrax japonicus
Japanese Snowbell is a showy, slow-growing deciduous tree that produces masses of bell-shaped, fragrant white flowers in early summer. The green foliage is held upwards, showing off the blooms nicely. In the fall, the leaves turn shades of golden-yellow and orange before dropping. As the tree matures, the brown-grey bark begins to peel, exposing brown-orange inner bark.
Japanese Snowbell grow best in full to part sun with moist, fertile, acidic, well-drained soil. It should be planted in a sheltered site that isn't exposed to cold, dry winds over the winter.
