Joe Pye Weed Spotted
Eutrochium maculatum
Spotted Joe-Pye Weed is a tall perennial native to Ontario. In mid to late summer, large clusters of dusty pink to mauve flowers appear at the tops of sturdy stems, attracting bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. Its height and bold blooms make it a great choice for the back of perennial gardens, rain gardens, and naturalized areas.
Spotted Joe-Pye Weed grows best in full sun to part shade with moist, well-drained soil and is especially well suited to areas near ponds, streams, and other damp locations. It also performs well in clay soils. It can grow quite tall, but cutting it back by about one-third in July can help keep the plant shorter and fuller. After flowering, the seed heads provide food for birds and can be left standing through winter for added seasonal interest.
Seasonal Availability: Typically May to August, depending on suppliers availability.
