Lemon Balm
Melissa officinalis
Lemon Balm is a perennial in the mint family. It has light green, lemon scented foliage with a minty-lemon flavour. It's great in soups, with meats, or as a tea.
You can harvest your Lemon Balm as needed throughout the growing season. Leaves loose a lot of aroma and flavour when dried and are best used fresh.
Lemon Balm grows best in full to part sun with fertile, well-drained soil that is consistently moist, not soggy. Consider adding organic matter to your garden to improve drainage and soil fertility.
We recommend planting Lemon Balm in containers, as it can grow aggressively in the ground. Remove flowers before they set seed to stop any unwanted spread.
Seasonal Availability: Typically available April through June, depending on suppliers availability.

Increase watering in the heat of summer and watch for wilting or browning as signs to increase watering frequency.
