Lilac 'Monge'
Syringa vulgaris 'Monge'
Monge Lilac produces long panicles of fragrant reddish-purple flowers in mid-to-late spring. It was first introduced in 1913 and is still very popular.
Lilacs grow best in full sun with moist, rich, alkaline soil with good drainage. Common Lilacs are prone to powdery mildew. Growing them in full sun, pruning them regularly to encourage airflow, and watering during drought can help reduce the chances of them developing the fungus.
