Lovage/Maggi Plant
Levisticum officinale
Lovage is a perennial herb with intense flavour, described as a zingy celery taste with a hint of parsley. The leaves can be used to flavour soups, stews, salads and more!
If you plan to grow your Lovage as a perennial you should wait to harvest until the second year of growth. If you are growing it as an annual, you can harvest your Lovage as needed throughout the growing season. The smallest leaves are usually the most tender and can be cut off at the base of the stem. Once Lovage has flowered, the foliage becomes bitter and inedible.
Lovage grows best in full sun to part sun with fertile, deep, well-drained soil that is consistently moist, not soggy. Consider adding organic matter to your garden to improve drainage and soil fertility.
Seasonal Availability: Typically available April through June, depending on suppliers availability.
