Milkweed Whorled
Asclepias verticillata
Whorled Milkweed is a slender perennial native to Ontario with narrow, needle-like leaves arranged in whorls around the stems. In summer, clusters of small white to greenish-white flowers appear and attract bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. Like other milkweeds, it can also serve as a larval host plant for Monarch butterflies.
Whorled Milkweed grows best in full sun with dry to average, well-drained soil. It is highly drought-tolerant once established and performs especially well in sandy, gravelly, or low-nutrient soils. Its fine-textured foliage and relatively narrow habit make it a good choice for prairie-style plantings, naturalized areas, and smaller native gardens.
Seasonal Availability: Typically May to July, depending on suppliers availability.
