Pitcher Plant Sanguinea
Nepenthes sanguinea
Nepenthes sanguinea is a large and vigorous species of Pitcher Plant native to Malaysia and Southern Thailand. It has long, shiny green leaves and produces pitchers that come in shades of green to yellow and orange to red.
Pitcher Plants require different care than typical houseplants. Depending on the type, they naturally grow in nutrient-poor bogs or tropical forests, where they have adapted to supplementing their nutrients by trapping and digesting insects and other small organisms rather than relying on rich soil. Most prefer high humidity and benefit from cooler nighttime temperatures than daytime temperatures.
Nepenthes sanguinea grows best in bright, indirect light with consistently moist, but never soggy, growing conditions. Water only with distilled, rain, or reverse osmosis water, as it is sensitive to minerals found in tap water. Plant it in a nutrient-poor, well-draining medium such as sphagnum moss or a mix of peat moss and perlite, and avoid standard potting soils or added fertilizers. It appreciates humidity levels of 60–80%, daytime temperatures of 21–29°C, and cooler nighttime temperatures of 10–18°C.
Seasonal Availability: Limited stock; available periodically throughout the year.

Keep soil moist, but not soggy. Your pot should have a drainage hole to reduce the likelihood of root rot caused by water accumulating in the bottom of the pot.
