Oak Dwarf Chinquapin
Quercus prinoides
Dwarf Chinquapin Oak is another underutilized oak native to Ontario. It's a smaller, slow-growing tree that is great for gardeners lacking space. It provides shelter and a food source for birds and small mammals, as well as being the larval host for many moth and butterfly species.
Dwarf Chinquapin Oaks grow best in full to part sun with average, well-drained soils. They are drought-tolerant once established but will not tolerate wet, poorly drained soil.
Seasonal Availability: Typically available April through June, depending on suppliers availability.
