Oak Pin
Quercus palustris
Pin Oak is a large, fast-growing deciduous tree native to Ontario. The leaves are glossy green in summer and turn russet-to-crimson-red in fall. It is also highly valuable to wildlife, providing food and shelter to birds and small mammals as well as being the larval host for many species of moths and butterflies.
Pin oaks grow best in full sun and are tolerant of many soil types, but grow best in moist, acidic, well-drained soils. They will develop chlorosis in highly alkaline soils and dislike poorly drained soils.
Seasonal Availability: Typically available April through August, depending on suppliers availability.
