Oak Red
Quercus rubra
Red Oak is a beautiful, fast-growing deciduous tree native to Ontario. It's tolerant of urban conditions, features shiny dark green leaves that turn brilliant shades of red in the fall, and can live for over 200 years. They are also highly valuable to wildlife, providing food and shelter for birds and mammals as well as being the larval host for many different species of moths and butterflies.
Red oaks grow best in full sun with fertile, acidic, well-drained soil but will tolerate alkaline and clay soils, though they may develop chlorosis if the soil pH is too high.
Seasonal Availability: Typically available April through August, depending on suppliers availability.
