Orchid Phalaenopsis
Phalaenopsis ssp.
Phalaenopsis is the most common variety of orchid. They usually bloom once a year and have flowers in shades of white, pink, yellow, purple, and orange, depending on the variety. They're one of the more forgiving orchids, tolerating average household conditions well.
Phalaenopsis grow best in bright, indirect light. For beginners, we recommend planting them in a clear pot so you can see the root system. When the roots start to develop a silver tone, it is time to water again. They need to be planted in sphagnum moss or orchid bark and will not tolerate growing in regular potting soil. They can only store water in their leaves and do not handle drought well, so ensure you are giving them regular moisture.
Seasonal Availability: Typically available year-round, depending on supplier availability.
