Red Valerian
Centranthus ruber var. coccineus
Red Valerian is an upright perennial with a long bloom season. Starting in early summer, clusters of crimson flowers appear over the blue-green foliage. The blooms continue throughout the summer and into early fall.
Red Valerian grows best in full sun (though it will tolerate light shade) with average, well-drained soils. They do not like heat and humidity and may take a break from flowering during intense heat, but are drought tolerance once established.
