Strawberry Woodland
Fragaria vesca
Woodland Strawberry is a low-growing perennial native to Ontario that forms a spreading groundcover of small, three-part green leaves. Delicate white flowers appear in spring and attract bees and other pollinators, followed by small, sweet red berries that are edible and also provide food for birds and other wildlife.
Woodland Strawberry grows best in part sun to shade with moist, well-drained soil, though it can tolerate some sun if moisture is consistent. It spreads gradually by runners and seed, making it a useful native groundcover for woodland edges, shaded gardens, and naturalized plantings.
Seasonal Availability: Typically May to July, depending on suppliers availability.
