Tradescantia 'Variegated Purple Heart'

Variegated Purple Heart is a vigorous variety prized for its long, pointed foliage in rich shades of deep purple to burgundy striped with bright pink variegation. Small pink flowers occasionally appear throughout the growing season, creating a soft contrast against the dark leaves.

Tradescantia is a fast-growing trailing or spreading plant that works well in containers, hanging baskets, mixed planters, and garden beds. Its bold foliage provides strong colour contrast and can be used as a spiller in containers or as a seasonal groundcover. It can also be brought indoors and kept as a houseplant over winter if given bright light.

Tradescantia grows best in full sun to part shade, with stronger light producing the deepest purple foliage. It prefers well-drained soil and should be watered when the top layer begins to dry, as consistently soggy conditions can lead to root problems. Pinching or trimming the stems can help keep the plant fuller and more compact.
