Viburnum 'European Snowball'

European Snowball is a large, deciduous, flowering shrub. In late spring/early summer, it produces numerous globes of creamy-white flowers. The green leaves turn slightly reddish in the fall. This variety is sterile and does not produce viable seed.

Viburnum grows best in full to part sun with average, somewhat moist, well-drained soils. They are somewhat drought-tolerant once established. 

European Snowball viburnum is highly susceptible to an invasive pest called Viburnum Leaf Beetle. Their eggs overwinter on the branches and stems of viburnum. In the spring, the hatched larvae begin to feed on leaves and can completely defoliate your shrub in a matter of days. After feeding, they pupate in the soil, emerge as adult beetles in early summer, and lay eggs from midsummer into fall. There are treatment methods for them, but it's up to you to decide if this is a task you are willing to take on.
