TOWERS OF FLOWERS® Apple Blossom is a unique variety of weigela. It features trumpet-shaped cherry red flowers that bloom along the entire stem, not just at the tips like most other varieties. It also has an upright, columnar habit, making it easy to fit in any garden. Its first flush of flowers occurs in late spring/early summer, with a possible partial rebloom occurring again in summer. 

Weigela grow best in full sun with average, well-drained soils. They are highly drought-tolerant once established.

Care

Full sun outdoors (6-8+ hours of direct sun)

Water every 2-4 days for the first year until established (based on outdoor temperature & plant's water consumption).

Increase watering in the heat of summer and watch for wilting or browning as signs to increase watering frequency.

Weigela should be pruned regularly as older branches tend to produces less flowers as they age. Removing these every few years can help promote new, fresh growth and lots of flowers.

Every 3-5 years, remove 1/4 of the oldest, largest stems as close to the ground as possible. Prioritize branches that are rubbing against each other, as these will eventually create wounds in the bark. Afterwards, thin the canopy of any dead, damaged, diseased branches, or any that are crossing or rubbing, or growing towards the center of the plant. This helps create airflow and allows more light into the center of the plant.
