Spruce White
Picea glauca
White Spruce is a large coniferous evergreen native to Ontario. It's usually considered one of the most important commercial trees of Canada, providing lumber for construction, piano sounding boards, violins and other instruments, but is primarily produced for pulpwood. It's one of the most widely distributed conifers in North America and provides food for various wildlife in winter and is the larval host for the Columbia Silkmoth.
Spruces grow best in full sun with fertile, moist, slightly acidic, well-draining soil. They are drought-tolerant once established but appreciate regular waterings during dry periods. Newly planted trees benefit from winter protection for the first few years, especially in exposed areas.
Seasonal Availability: Typically available May through July, depending on suppliers availability.
