Wild Columbine
Aquilegia canadensis
Wild Columbine is a graceful perennial native to Ontario. In late spring to early summer, nodding red and yellow flowers appear above delicate, blue-green foliage. The tubular blooms are especially attractive to hummingbirds and also provide nectar for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators.
Wild Columbine grows best in part sun to light shade with average, well-drained soil, though it can tolerate more sun if moisture is consistent. It is adaptable, easy to grow, and may self-seed to form small colonies over time. Powdery mildew is common later in the season, especially in humid conditions, but it is primarily cosmetic and generally does not harm the plant.
Seasonal Availability: Typically May to July, depending on suppliers availability.
