Winter Gourd 'Wax Boy'
Benincasa hispida 'Wax Boy F1'
Wax Boy produces dark green gourds that develop a waxy coating as they mature. This variety produces yields of high-quality fruit that weigh around 25-30lbs once mature, though they can weigh up to 40lbs.
Harvest your gourd once the thick, waxy coating has developed and the fruit has reached its mature size.
Winter Gourds grow best in warm temperatures with full sun and fertile, moist, well-drained soil. They need a long time to mature (120+ days) and may not ripen until fall.
Seasonal Availability: Typically available April through June, depending on suppliers availability.

Care
Full sun outdoors (6-8+ hours of direct sun)
Keep soil moist, but not soggy.
If it is planted in a pot, it should have a drainage hole to reduce the likelihood of root rot caused by water accumulating in the bottom of the pot.
Increase watering in the heat of summer and watch for wilting or browning as signs to increase watering frequency.
